MEDIA RELEASE – attention Parramatta Sun and PS Magazine DIARY
This year's 350.org Bike Ride+Picnic is shaping up to be a fun family event in Parramatta Park on Saturday Sept 24th.
Promoting a healthy, green and clean energy future the community based event is launching today.
Event organisers CAMWEST (Cyclist Action Movement West) and ParraCAN (Parramatta Climate Action Network) have opened free Registration online today and invite business, school and family teams to circuit Parramatta Park for the International 350.org Event.
Parramatta's own event, kicking off at 9am, is one of thousands of creative “people-powered” happenings all around the world, on what is known as Moving Planet Day ( see http://www.moving-planet.org ). Sydney is starting the day with 350 dawn kites on Bondi Beach.
Participants are invited to help create a big fun 350.org Artwork and contribute by collecting their used paper coffee (and drink) cups. ParraCAN spokesman Tom Halbert said: "My office has started collecting our used paper cups , to add to the "Big Invisible Black Cloud" paper sculpture. The artwork is symbolic to give shape to the invisible carbon-dioxide pollution increases that we must respond to, to avoid climate chaos".
This year the 350 Ride grows as the leading community driven sustainable living event for the Parramatta region. More family fun is booked with drumming workshops; live band and song with Ecopella and Robbers Dog; healthy food and Chai Chillout Tent; clean-tech displays; information and of course bike riding exercise with a stimulating coffee charged twist.
Tom said "There are many actions we can all do to reduce our carbon footprint, and the 350.org Moving Planet Day is a major step forward for Parramatta residents to be involved in exploring sustainable responses to the climate challenge"
Registrations are free from today online at http://www.parracan.org
