This new years eve fireworks glows and bangs,

for we live yet for another orbit around our sun.

The rising light exploding, and in seconds hangs,

dissipating a spatial expansion of passing fun.

A brief time compared to the rest of the year,

as the last century compared all species deep time.

Exponential energy release, of power, blast and scare,

to demonstrate the wealth of each city in its prime.

What a dreadful night it might be,

and a disaster year sure to follow,.

if such weapons of light we did not sparkling see,

made from rockets,chemicals and sorrow.

No occasion is required for weapons of war,

to use projectile explosions of all sizes.

Used to turn living beings into gore,

made from rockets, chemicals and Nobel prizes.

The purpose of war is to gain liquid energy,

to ensure re-supply for more growth with consuming pace.

Energy so often requires murder, in much maligned locality,

of people with bad behaviour, religion, nationality or race.

Each dying ember of light in the sky,

at each local place, flashes briefly.

Counts the lives of others who were made to die,

for your brief gratification comes not cheaply.

So I stay inside my home, alone, silent, and reflect,

whilst avoiding a victorious demonstration of physics,

by a society whose chemical and industrial skills I suspect,

marks a killer species in desperate need of psychoanalytics.
